Summer has arrived, the sun has even made an appearance in Scotland! To celebrate I wanted to share some fabulous cruelty free faves I’ve been loving, so in no particular order let’s go…
This candle is made with natural, vegan friendly soy wax and it smells gorgeous! The label is adorned with flamingos, pineapples and flowers and reads “For days when you wish you were floating in a blue pool, on a pink lilo, drinking from a coconut!” – How amazing does that sound??? Love. Love. Love. I am looking forward to trying the rest of the range, especially the Green Opal Fruits and Mojito scents. I know you will love them too so I have scored a sweet 10% off for you guys , just enter VFG10 at checkout.
I was first introduced to these fabulous face mists after receiving the calming coconut mist in a goodie bag at a Body Shop bloggers event. I have since purchased more mists and so have my friends! I am ginger and live in Glasgow which means I cannot handle the heat so these have been an absolute handbag saviour to cool me down while nourishing my sensitive skin. Check out my Body Shop post to find out more about other new vegan products available.
3. Ice Cream
Yes I am basic, I know. There are so many great vegan ice cream options available nowadays, I am actually tempted to write a full post on this topic. My fave supermarket option is the Swedish Glacé caramel toffee ice cream cone, delicious toffee ice cream coated in chocolate with a toffee sauce centre. If you are Glasgow based get yourself down to Ginesi’s Gelato in the Southside as they always have delicious vegan flavours ranging from traditional to some more adventurous options, they are constantly swapping it up so check out their Instagram for latest flavours on offer. In the Westend you can create your own “Magnum” at In Bloom from only £4 – I topped mine with Biscoff bits, Oreos, fudge pieces and caramel sauce and it was perfection!
4. Iced Coffee
I am a self confessed coffee addict and in the hotter months I swap my fave hot bev for a cooler version . On occasion we will take the time to make cold brew coffee at home but more often than not I will just pick up an iced oat milk latte from Gordon Street Coffee based in Glasgow Central Station, I love their Glasgow roast and they always have a great range of vegan cakes too! You don’t have to be Glasgow based to try their Glasgow roast as you can order their range online for delivery anywhere in the UK. Since I love you guys you can get a massive 20% off by entering GSC20 at checkout, free delivery on orders over £25. Oh and another way to enjoy coffee in the warmer months is using coffee ice cubes in Baileys Almande, it is a game changer.
5. Overnight Oats
My go to breakfast at the moment is overnight oats – healthy, simple and versatile. The night before I chuck together oats, plant based milk and fruit then voila awake to breakfast. They are ideal if the longer Summer nights have you staying out a little later than you should … wake up, grab and go! My fave combinations are raspberries or strawberries with nut butter, Pip and Nut is my fave. If you want something that tastes a little more indulgent then try cherries with dark chocolate chips, you could even use chocolate milk for a double choc hit!
It may be warm outside but I still enjoy a bubble bath. This bubble bar is so uplifting with its citrus scent and bright orange bubbles. The other great thing about this bar compared to a bath bomb is that I can quarter it for 4 uses so Sunday nights are sorted for an entire month!
The first smell of BBQ smoke is a sure sign Summer has arrived! I wrote a BBQ blog post back in May if you need some inspiration on how to create a vegan feast. I’ve also been making s’mores at home sans BBQ and it really couldn’t be easier: take a vegan digestive style biscuit (we found some in Tesco free from section) top with square of dark chocolate (vegan obv) and a vegan marshmallow (I love Freedom mallows brand) then shove under the grill under mallow starts to puff up then top with another biscuit before devouring!
8. Street Food
Street Food has a real Summer feel for me, it’s a great way to take full advantage of the warmer weather and longer nights while travelling the world through your tastebuds. Glasgow is really spoiled for choice with The Big Feed, Platform and Dockyard Social.
I have been obsessed with Candy Kitten’s pineapple sweets for quite some time but recently they have extended their vegan range to include strawberry, blueberry and watermelon – all delicious and great Summer flavours!
Glasgow has some exciting events coming up that are well worth swapping your savings for a shopping splurge and beach abs for a beer belly! The Scotland Vegan Festival is coming to Hampden on July 14th with over 100 stalls as well as demos and workshops. Mono is playing host to the Glasgow Vegan Beer Festival on Sunday August 5th, it’s a bank holiday weekend so no worrying about work come Monday morning. The Vegan Connections Festival takes place the following weekend for two days showcasing the best vegan food and drink with a soundtrack of live music.
I hope you enjoyed this post and if you try any of my faves please let me know what you think! What are you loving just now? You can comment below and feel free to get in touch if there is an event or amazing product you’d like me to feature in future posts.
