Vegan Foodie Gems: Tomillo

Glasgow has an amazing selection of great vegan restaurants but there is just something special about Tomillo.

Firstly it offers a completely vegan takeaway and home delivery service that allows you to eat restaurant quality food in your PJs and they even offer a selection of vegan wines to wash it down.

It is a far cry from vegan junk food as rather than keeping things simple they challenge themselves to offer truly creative dishes proving just how exciting plant-based food can be! You can choose from dishes like sesame ramen, jackfruit sabji and tofu Katsu Curry.

As well as the takeaway service, they regularly host events each with a unique theme such as their recent Moroccan tasting menu and New York inspired BBQ. Sadly I missed the Moroccan menu but the BBQ was perfection! Myself and Mr. Johnson soaked up the sun beside the canal while munching on bao buns and bbq jackfruit baguettes while the DJ provided the perfect soundtrack.

This weekend I went along to their Tapas Tasting Menu and as usual the team absolutely smashed my high expectations! I was welcomed with sangria, in fact they offered a choice of 3 using a base of white, red or sparkling wine.

I’ll let my pictures do the talking in regards to my meal but they really don’t do the dishes justice.

My highlight was the jackfruit and asparagus croquettes.

I love patatas bravas and using sweet potato was a delicious twist.

When in Spain I love people watching while munching on padron peppers so I was delighted these were featured on the menu.

The stuffed aubergine was full of flavour and a great contrast of textures too.

As well as serving up amazing food, the service is always fabulous and their passion for great food really shines through when talking you through the menu. They always cater wonderfully to Mr. Johnson having a nut allergy too, making it easy to relax and not once has he left feeling like he had a lesser meal – unlike when you are at a party with a huge spread of food but the only thing suitable for nut free vegan is a dry breadstick!

The next event is going to take place August 30th – September 1st which will showcase a 5 course Scottish Cuisine tasting menu. Tomillo have teamed up with Glasgow based brewery Jaw Brew to perfectly pair a flight of 5 beers to compliment each course. Tickets are only £25 but very limited so get in touch with the team now to avoid disappointment.

I really hope this post made you hungry and that you try out Tomillo soon!

  1. The food looks delicious – thanks for the handy guide. If I am ever in the area then I know for sure where I am eating 😛 I like that they have healthy meals.
