Who doesn’t love a hot chocolate on a cold night?
However you like it; boozy, sweet or spicy I have got you covered this Christmas.
But one thing is for sure, to make it special you need marshmallows! So I have teamed up with Freedom Mallows to create these recipes for you.
Freedom Mallows are not only vegan but they are also gluten free, dairy free, fat free, soy free, GMO free and nut free so suitable for all your guests. Oh and they are super yummy of course!
Firstly, there are loads of vegan friendly hot chocolate powders etc available so use whichever you prefer. Personally, I love Choc Shot because it’s liquid chocolate it guarantees no nasty powder taste and it comes in choice of original, coconut and orange spice.
Secondly, you don’t need me to tell you all the plant based milks available but when it comes to making hot drinks I use Oatly barista. I’ve spotted a few brands doing barista options so grab one if you can as these are designed especially for hot drinks.
Need warmed up then try this vanilla spiced hot chocolate by adding a tsp of cinnamon, some vanilla, wee pinch of nutmeg and finally a teeny bit of cayenne pepper. You are probably thinking what the hell are my measurements all about? But really you can add as much or as little spice as you like to suit your tastes. You are very likely thinking cayenne pepper?!? Honestly it works. Top with vanilla mallows and a sprinkle of cinnamon. You could also crumble some Biscoff biscuits over the top or serve these on the side
Everyone knows calories don’t count at Christmas so don’t skimp on the chocolate! Dip your mug in melted dark chocolate to rim the top then using a little more dark chocolate as glue attach some mini pretzels around your mug, bonus points for Christmas shaped pretzels. Top your hot chocolate with lots of whipped cream, more melted chocolate, vanilla and strawberry mallows
Fancy a boozy mocha? Then simply add 3 Tbsps of Kahlua original coffee liqueur. You could use other vegan friendly liqueurs but this works great at Christmas with its roasted chestnut tasting notes. Finish with whipped cream and vanilla mallows, if you want to be fancy use some dark chocolate coffee beans too. This idea is dedicated to my bestie who loves “a coffee with booze in it” – sorry for the personal joke folks but laughing at her ridiculousness is one of my fave pastimes.
And there you have it 3 yummy hot chocolate ideas.
If you give them a go then let me know in the comments below and by tagging me on Instagram so I can see and share on my stories! And let me know your fave hot chocolate combination in comments too.
