My Top Ten Meals from 2018

While many people have used the new year as an opportunity to reflect on achievements from 2018 or set goals for the upcoming year, I have chosen to reflect back on my best meals from last year.

There was not a week that went by that we didn’t eat out or try out a tasty new recipe at home so it was extremely difficult to pick just ten meals but in no particular order here we go…

Garlic Nan from UshasA huge fresh nan smothered in garlic, what’s not to love? It’s always cooked perfectly with crisp bubbles on top and a fluffy centre to mop up their delicious curries but tastes great on its own too.

Pancakes from LagomThe prettiest pancakes, I admit I’m an absolute sucker for edible flowers. It’s not all shimmy and no substance though as these taste as good as they look.

Glasgow Supper ClubI have been blown away by their monthly menus each with a different theme based on the mood and produce of the season. It may not seem like the most exciting pick but the warm lemon focaccia was so damn tasty.

Doner Kebab from Hillhead BookclubThis could actually be my stand out dish of 2018! Fresh crisp veggies, the “doner” meat topped with their homemade spicy sauce and coconut tzatziki all come together to tingle your tastebuds.

The V Mac from Durty Vegan Burger ClubThis Burger was a messy business but the maple glazed bun and the sauce make it 100% worth it. I know D.V.B.C has big plans for 2019 including cookery workshops so I’m excited to see what’s next!

The best cake from It all started hereDark chocolate, coffee and date cake topped with berries and rose petals. To be honest I had just popped in for a coffee but couldn’t resist this cake and I am so glad I didn’t as it really was melt in the mouth good.

Tempura cauliflower poké bowl from Honu – A fresh tasting bowl full of flavour and textures with crispy cauliflower, pickled veg, perfectly cooked rice and sticky teriyaki sauce.

Mexican Burger from Avant Garde Vegan 100 Mr.Johnson cooked this on the BBQ for my birthday and wow, just wow. The tasty spicy bean burger was made extra AF by topping with avocado, salsa, spicy cheese from Follow your heart and tortilla crisps.

Tomillo Tasting Menus – Every single dish we have had throughout the year has exceeded my high expectations. However, my overall fave dish had to be a slice of salt baked butternut squash served with gnocchi, crispy kale and beetroot purée.

Fake Christmas by my lovely sister – Yes the homemade Wellington was delicious but the sides of creamed spinach and baby hassleback potatoes made this meal really special. Check out my previous post for more of my festive eats.

I know some of you may be just embarking on your vegan journey, doing Veganuary or just simply looking to eat a bit more plant based this year and I really hope this post has highlighted how versatile and delicious a vegan diet can be.
