Generation Veg aim to show just how easy, accessible and delicious vegan food can be by hosting monthly markets showcasing the best local brands.
Last night I went along to the “Big Fat Vegan Christmas Feast” hosted by the babes at Generation Veg.
On arrival we were greeted with a welcome fizz but the dinner was BYOB so I brought along a bottle of fizz, it is Christmas after all!
Our 3 course meal was prepared by Aurelija, former chef at Rose and Grants and owner of the newly launched Chu Chu Bakery, so I knew we were in for a treat!
To start we were served smoked “salmon” and cream cheese crostini. This was creative cooking at its finest, turning carrot into a crazy convincing smoked salmon. I’m definitely going to be asking for the recipe as this could be a perfect Christmas day breakfast.
The main event was a seitan wellington roast served with trimmings of creamy mashed potatoes, balsamic brussel sprouts, maple glazed roasted butternut squash, carrots and parsnips. I absolutely loved how much attention was given to the trimmings as they all contributed so much flavour. I’ve sometimes found seitan to be a tad dry but this was moist and delicious.
The dessert was a showstopping chocolate orange bomb! A chocolate orange sponge topped with orange curd then covered in a chocolate mousse. This was unbelievably good, seriously melt in the mouth good.
A night of good food and good company, what could be more festive than that?!
But a Big Fat Vegan Feast is not just for Christmas as rumour has it they will be hosting similar events in the new year so give them a follow on Instagram to keep up to date with future events.
